Goods to paradise

Early in the morning, Ken Thaiday is busy putting the finishing touches on a special sculpture he’s made for the re-opening of a local church. At her home, area midwife Paula Dawson, is getting ready for her house, while local broadcaster Sylvia is announcing the weather on the radio.

These are three of the inhabitants in The Torres Strait Islands. Although their paths may just cross, they share the same dependence.

Because of their remote locations, they rely on the Sea Swift’s weekly service, which delivers everything from new vehicles and spare parts to groceries and medical supplies.
