A History of Amazonia

Brought to you by Lucky You - A Federation label

Large swathes of the Amazon rainforest are burning. There have been more than 80,000 fire outbreaks in Brazil so far, this year. At the table of diplomatic talks, the destiny of the Amazonia and humankind are clearly linked with each other.

But this is no news for the inhabitants of the rainforest. The Yawalapiti have been giving warnings ever since the construction the Transamazonia road. Within less than a century a quarter of their habitat has disappeared.

Now, loggers and farmers are even encouraged by the new president to clear the land in order to open up the region to economic activity. This one-off shows what are the negative visible and invisible consequences of this strategy.
