Federation MEAC announces a rich slate of premium film projects, series and high-end documentaries

SPINNERS, on CANAL+ since June 24th is the first-ever African series in primetime in France.

The Canal+ / Showmax original series just won the Best Foreign TV Series award at Shanghai

TV Festival.

Federation MEAC – a subsidiary of Federation Studios devoted to the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean, all highly creative and dynamic territories – has already established itself as a strong player in the audiovisual production industry.

The company, led by producer Joachim Landau, is propelled by the success of its debut series SPINNERS, broadcasted on Canal + and available on MyCanal. It is a historical premiere for an African and South African series.

On 28 June, the Canal+ / Showmax Original series SPINNERS won the Best Foreign TV Series award at the 29th Shanghai TV Festival‘sMagnolia Awards in China.

In 2023, the series had already made history by being the first African series in official competition at Canneseries. Since then, SPINNERS has won three awards at the first edition of Dakar Series (Best TV Series, Best Editing, Best Actor).

SPINNERS is a coproduction between Federation MEAC (initiated by Empreinte Digitale) and Natives at Large in South Africa for Canal+ and Showmax.

Season 2 of SPINNERS is currently underway with head writers Sean Steinberg and Matthews Jankes in association with showrunner Benjamin Hoffman.

Furthermore, Federation MEAC continues to prove and sow its determination to support projects from the Caribbean, the Middle east, and Africa on the best international and local channels and platforms.

With a very rich line up of film projects, series and high-End documentaries covering pop culture and genre DNA, Federation MEAC is currently focusing on these upcoming ambitious and original productions and strategic partnerships.

These advanced projects include:

  • 3 ambitious co-productions with internationally acclaimed author Deon Meyer and globally successful South African production company Scene 23, including the adaptation of his international bestseller FEVER.
  • A GIRL TO MARRY: a TV comedy series about mixed couples in France, co-developed and co-produced with Clémentine Vaudaux from GAUMONT and written by Lise Barembaum.
  • HARLEM HELLFIGHTERS: an animated documentary series directed by Sonia Rolland (AN UNEXPECTED DESTINY), that recalls the true story of the Harlem Hellfighters, the first African American battalion to fight on European soil, in France, during the First World War. Written by Fadette Drouard (PAPICHA, THE SITTING DUCK, MY HEROINE) and Benjamin Hoffman (SPINNERS) for CANAL+. Co-produced with the highly respected American producer Vic Bulluck (JUDGE MATHIS, WINDOWS ON THE WORLD), SOMAD (Sonia Rolland, Amanda Herzberg) and French award-winning studio La Chouette Compagnie (DRONERS, AZURO & THE DRAGON’S SQUAD, IMAGO).

Further announcements will follow soon, including documentaries (feature length and series led by high-profile French talents involved in African production), an animated series with Ubisoft, two feature films for theatrical and platform releases, including one using motion capture technology and two more fiction series.
