For immediate release
Federation Studios (headed by Pascal Breton and co-directed by Lionel Uzan) and Empreinte Digitale are proud to announce the creation of Federation MEAC, a production subsidiary devoted to the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean– highly creative and dynamic territories.
Federation MEAC’s purpose is to work with and connect talents from these parts of the world, both locally and internationally, via productions and co-productions that will help put their creativity on the global map.
This subsidiary has been created by co-founding chairman Joachim Landau who, up until now has been a producer of documentaries, unscripted programs and series with Empreinte Digitale, another member of the Federation Studios group, known for its shows Infiniti (Canal+), Parallels (Disney+) and The 7 Lives of Lea (Netflix), among others.
Lionel Uzan, managing director of Federation Studios, and Raphaël Rocher, managing director of Empreinte Digitale, will be on the board alongside Joachim Landau. Their combined experience and the excellent reputation of the Federation group only boost Federation MEAC’s development.
“The audiovisual market in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean is expanding fast, with a plethora of excellent writers, directors, actors and producers,” says Joachim Landau. “Their inventiveness and energy reflect those of Federation so much so that we just had to be present in these markets. We aim to help them grow internationally and to create synergies with our group, by sharing its formats, for example.’’
Joachim Landau was the natural candidate for Federation MEAC. Having acquired expertise in the areas of cinema, TV and Africa (he has a master’s degree in South African Cinema during Apartheid, and a Master’s in Business Administration & Audiovisual Production, as well as a PhD in political science from Sciences Po Bordeaux on the South African TV/Film Industry), he began his career in the Contents Division at Orange before joining Empreinte Digitale in 2014.
Landau co-created and is producing a South African series for Empreinte Digitale that is a co-production with Natives at Large. Spinners is currently being shot in Cape Town for CANAL+ and SHOWMAX.
About fifteen projects in total are being developed at the moment. They cover a wide spectrum, from streamed feature films and documentaries to fiction series, with a penchant for pop culture and genre products across the board: rom-com, thriller, genre, action. Whatever the product, it’s always mainstream.
Joachim Landau will be assisted by Manuela Cassuto, head of development in charge of sourcing projects and taking them all the way to production.
