THE AGE OF ANIMALS

Deep in the Swiss Alps lies Derborence, a secluded valley shaped by devastating landslides that forced its inhabitants to flee three centuries ago. Ever since, it has been almost untouched by humans. The valley is home to a primeval forest of 450-year-old silver fir trees surrounding a mountain lake and making it a natural sanctuary with remarkable biodiversity.

Director Vincent Chabloz has explored Derborence since childhood, developing an intimate knowledge of its natural world. Across the four seasons, he reveals the valley’s hidden life, capturing the animals’ encounters, their responses to an ever-changing environment and the way they react to the occasional presence of humans in their territory. A rare opportunity to experience the natural world from their perspective.
