They were 23. They were nicknamed the eyes of the State. The Nahal Oz Unit 414. They saw it, but the state did not listen to them. They were just as much the Cassandra of the Hamas assault as the first victims. Today the guards on the border with Gaza are demanding the truth and giving us freeze frame of Israeli society.
If they had been listened to, 7 October could have been avoided. Through them, we talk about the assault, the training of Hamas assailants they witnessed, the malfunctions within Netanyahu’s services and government, the fate of the hostages, and the current lines of tension in Israeli society, especially the place of women in the army.
After an initial scouting in Israel, we have access to survivors and the families of missing young women. Through their testimonies and this human story, we will tell the conflict from an unprecedented angle. We have rare material: the last radio messages from the surveillance soldiers before the assault, some diary, videos taken with their mobile phones but also the hostage-taking videos filmed by Hamas assailants… a lot of element for an ambitious dramaturgy.
