“Patrick Vieira – Off The Bench” (90’)

A social impact documentary on systemic racism in soccer

Paris, October 10th, 2022

For Immediate Release:

Patrick Vieira – Off the bench, a social-impact feature documentary on racism in soccer co-produced by SlugNews & Federation Studios.

Marina Ladous, Jean-Baptiste Renaud, Lorenzo Benedetti and Patrick Vieira (SlugNews) have teamed up with Myriam Weil (Federation Studios) to develop and produce this documentary, soon shooting in Great Britain and France.

In Off The Bench, Patrick Vieira goes public to engage in the fight of his life: denouncing systemic racism in his beloved sport soccer, and beyond.

Patrick Vieira has had an exceptional career in professional soccer, both as a pillar of the biggest European clubs, (Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan, Manchester City), as well as a member and captain of the French national team, winner of the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship.

Currently coach of English Premier League club, Crystal Palace after a stint in Nice and New York, Vieira draws from his extraordinary experience to produce an ambitious journalistic investigation over several months, complete with supporting data. This is the impact film on world soccer that Vieira has been dreaming of seeing for years.

Players, trainers, coaches, managers and journalists will all be involved in this documentary event.

Patrick Vieira : “In 2022, black players continue to be insulted on the field and on social media. There are only two black coaches in first division on the entire European continent including me! How can we change this?”

Marina Ladous et Myriam Weil : « With this documentary, our goal is not only to stop at the facts, but to effect real change positively, and in a constructive spirit. We are combining our experience in investigative and sports documentaries to advance this crucial cause! »
