For immediate release
Hot on the heels of their 2023 Sundance Film Festival premiere, Nathan Bryon (Rye Lane, Bloods, Bad Education, Little Darlings) and Tom Melia (Rye Lane, Bloods, Zero Chill), co-writers of Rye Lane team up with experienced outfit, Vertigo Films (Britannia, Bronson, Mammals, Monsters) for a deliciously inventive new romantic-comedy road movie.
Creators of The Whole Hog, Bryon and Melia are currently preparing for the release of their first feature film, Rye Lane for Searchlight Pictures, following its premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival to wide critical acclaim.
The Whole Hog follows a newly broken up couple who are forced to temporarily reconcile their differences and travel the festivals and markets of the country together, as they try and make a success of the food truck that they sunk their savings into pre-split.
With the same razor sharp and freewheeling insights into relationships seen in films such as Palm Springs and Before Sunrise and the sheer joy of seeing food on the big screen seen in Chef, The Whole Hog aims to be a modern, vibrant and diverse feel-good classic that when you’re not crying with laughter or weeping at the romance - you’ll be drooling over the mouthwatering food and aweing at the most beautiful scenery Britain has to offer along the way.
The film marks a swift return to the genre for Vertigo Films, following the success of This Is Christmas directed by Chris Foggin, starring Alfred Enoch, Kaya Scodelario and Timothy Spall, which released on Sky Cinema and Epix (now MGM+) last year.
The Federation Studios-backed production outfit is currently in post-production on Nick Love’s 1980s crime thriller, A Town Called Malice for Sky Max to release later this year.
The Whole Hog will be produced by Vertigo Films with Allan Niblo (Bronson, Monsters) serving as producer with the script from co-writers Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia.
Allan Niblo, producer for Vertigo Films says:
“We were deep in post on another romantic-comedy when Tom and Nathan brought the idea for The Whole Hog to us and we jumped immediately - with authentic characters, heartfelt story and an incredibly enticing world the potential for a classic is all there, and it’s easy to see why Rye Lane is going down a storm. This story will take us on a tour of festivities across the country with a couple that all of us can root for, and we can’t wait to bring that to the screen.”
